About the practice
One chartered surveyor, personally accountable
Brecon & Dean Ltd is an RICS-regulated firm (no. 898081) run by James Buckingham BA (Hons) MSc MRICS.
James is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer, member number 5044356. He inspects every property himself and writes every report himself. Nothing is delegated to a site team and nothing is outsourced.
The practice works from Berry Hill, Coleford, Gloucestershire and covers the Forest of Dean, the Wye Valley, the Welsh borders, the Brecon Beacons and rural Wales. It is deliberately rural: the building stock here is solid stone, timber frame and converted agricultural buildings, and it needs surveying on its own terms.
Alongside period and traditionally built property, James specialises in non-traditional and system-built construction — precast concrete (PRC), steel-framed houses such as BISF, timber frame and modular. These frameworks age in their own way, and his Level 3 reporting covers frame and concrete condition, whether earlier repairs meet recognised scheme standards for lender compliance, and how alterations, insulation and thermal upgrades should sensibly be planned.
The caseload is capped at 12 assignments a month. That cap is the service: it is what makes an honest turnaround possible and what allows time on site and a proper conversation afterwards.
